A bridge between academia and practice

Since 1995, Welsh Institute for Health and Social Care (WIHSC) has existed to bridge gaps between academia, policy and practice.

The strategic intent of WIHSC is to be a key player in informing and influencing the implementation of evidence-based health and care services across the statutory, voluntary and independent sectors.

WIHSC has a national reputation for impact as a leading health and care policy research institute, which is built on a robust self-financing platform derived from the delivery of excellent academic research, evaluation and consultancy.

WIHSC has five priority areas reflecting our current research strengths and aspirations for new areas of work and influence.

To celebrate WIHSC's 25th Anniversary we produced a series of articles on the future of health, care and well-being, based on these areas.

Key current or recent projects include:

Collaborating with the Health Foundation on its Path to Sustainability study
Leading a four-year national evaluation of the implementation and outcomes of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act
Evaluations of social prescribing interventions across Wales
Evaluation of the Neighbourhood District Nursing pilots in Wales
